How Faith Can Improve Your Life

If you’ve followed me for a while, or read my blog at all, then you know how I feel about the role faith has played in bettering my life. However, I didn’t always see it that way. I had to experience many hardships and a lot of heartache before I realized the importance of my faith.

Ep.1: Welcome to “Your Best New Self” Podcast with Helen Elizabeth

Hello, Friends! Welcome, and thank you so much for listening to the VERY first episode of “Your Best New Self” Podcast! I’m your host, Helen Elizabeth Peters – founder of Your Best New Ministries, and I’m absolutely THRILLED to be kicking off this exciting branch of my ministry!

However, before you press play, I just wanted to take a moment to define what exactly you’re getting into.

Firstly, it’s my ultimate desire that this podcast would help you on the continuous journey of becoming your best, well-rounded self in Christ. Secondly, each episode will consist of down-to-earth conversations about everyday topics from a Christian perspective. Within these conversations, I plan to (a) openly share about my life experiences, (b) answer listener based questions, and (c) discuss scripture in a way that’s both easy to understand and applicable to our daily lives. Finally, it’s my mission [and the purpose of my ministry] to help you experience the freedom found in releasing expectations to embrace God’s plan.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if we’re just getting into your faith or we’ve had a relationship with Jesus forever, we all have room to grow. Becoming the absolute best version of ourselves will never be complete in this lifetime, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try. Therefore, it’s my prayer that every word I speak, and every letter I type will be an aid in helping you become the absolute best version of yourself today, tomorrow, and forever.

5 Things to Avoid When Stressed

The other day, my husband and I were discussing how difficult it is to manage stress in a healthy way. We went on to share some of the bad habits we’d fallen into when dealing with high-stress situations. After this discussion, I decided to do a little research on the topic of stress. I found that there were many articles discussing the management of stress [which I know is incredibly important since stress is one of the most common health ailments], but not necessarily that much attention given to what we should avoid.

After researching a little more and spending some time reflecting on some of my more stressful moments, I decided to put together a short list of things we should avoid when we’re stressed. In doing so, my hope is to help you and I manage our stress in a much healthier way…

Helping Your Hair Look It’s Best

Growing up one of the things I struggled with was how to do my hair. If you know my story, then you know I’m adopted and I recently found out through DNA testing that I am 31% Native American, 24% England/Wales/Northern Europe, 12% Cameroon, Congo & Sothern Bantu Peoples, 9% Ireland/Scotland, 8% France, 6% Benin/Togo, 3% Spain and so on.

I tell you all this to help you understand why my hair was so hard to manage. When I went through puberty it was like my hair freaked out and didn’t know which ethnicity it should reflect. This, unfortunately, resulted in a SUPER thick, bushy, mostly curly with random straight places blob on top of my head – when before that point it had been fairly thin and straight. To make matters worse, I ended up getting a terrible haircut that the boys in 5th and 6th grade LOVED to make fun of. It was basically a big bushy triangle that I tried to poorly straighten. [The guys would tell the teacher they lost their pencil, then walk behind me and say, oh wait! I found it in Helen’s hair! – No lie, that happened.)

Forgiving Ourselves: Luke 15:1-24 IG Live Bible Study

In case you missed our weekly “Best New Self” Instagram (IG) Live Bible Study covering Luke 15:1-24 this week, here’s a replay (see video below)! While studying Luke 15 to prepare for our study, I was greatly reminded of the time period when I finally saw my way of life for what it was – hurtful and sinful – and wanted nothing more than to repent from my old way of living and be made new in Christ. This chapter paints such a beautiful picture of how God waits for us to see the errors of our ways, as well as how He searches for us when we’re lost. I love this chapter of the Bible because it shows me just how much our Father loves us. In each example given in this chapter we see that a prized possession is lost. Why? Because Jesus is trying to tell us that WE are His prized positions, and He wants nothing more than for us to be saved and have a close relationship with Him.
