How Faith Can Improve Your Life

If you’ve followed me for a while, or read my blog at all, then you know how I feel about the role faith has played in bettering my life. However, I didn’t always see it that way. I had to experience many hardships and a lot of heartache before I realized the importance of my faith.

If you found this blog in the search for answers about spiritual conviction and/or whether or not having faith can really make your life better, then I encourage you to continue reading. I, of course, believe that faith in God will undoubtedly make your life better; but rather than just tell you so, I’ve compiled a list of a few ways it has improved mine so that you can read and decide for yourself.

A Sense of Peace

With genuine faith comes internal peace. By genuine I mean not based on reciprocation, or circumstances, but rather rooted in a genuine love for Christ. When we experience this kind of faith, it can provide peace in the chaos of life. It can help you put suffering behind you in a positive and healthy way. I know this to be true because of personal experience. The most testing experience being becoming a widow at 27. At one point or another, everyone will experience hardship in this life. As Christians, however, we are given the opportunity to overcome these difficult experiences through our faith.

A Sense of Structure

The degree to which each of us dedicates our lives to faith will vary drastically. In my experience, the times I felt most anxious were when there was no structure to my daily routine and no obvious path for me to follow. When I started seeking after God, a routine for my daily life began to develop. I might not have known where I was going yet, but what I did know was that I finally had a sense of direction and a desire to become my best self.

A Sense of Purpose

Without faith, it’s easy to feel like life is meaningless, and wonder why we’re even here. When we don’t have solid answers for what our purpose is, we can quickly feel dejected and down. Faith, however, tends to give us answers for these questions. It can help us work through suffering and moments of extreme hurt. It can provide us with a more positive outlook for this life and the one to come.

Expanded Social Circles

Like many young pros, after college, I experienced a time of confusion. My whole life I had been in school and now I was expected to grow up and know what I was doing. It may have been easier if I still had my friends by my side, but unfortunately, after college, we all go our separate ways. For a long while, I felt like I no longer had good quality friends, which caused me to feel very alone walking through a difficult stage of life. This changed, however, when I started attending church again and got involved in a small group where I made friends with some truly inspiring people. I realized very quickly that being part of a small group not only expanded my social circle again, but it also improved my mood because I was able to discuss my thoughts and beliefs with like-minded people.

I highly recommend getting involved with a Christian small group when wanting to make positive changes in your life. Even if you aren’t currently attending a church, or don’t want to make that kind of commitment yet, then you can still get involved with small groups online. These small groups help you get in touch with others of the same faith. They enable connections and create a sense of community through open conversation.

Cultural and Historical Knowledge

I don’t think people realize how much we can learn about different cultures and their history when studying the Bible. I’ve found that learning about the history of faith has expanded my knowledge and developed a desire for understanding theology and apologetics. That may not seem very important, but honestly, I feel that it has bettered my life because it has allowed me to better understand my thoughts, feelings and perspectives that I otherwise may have missed out on.

These, of course, are just a few personal benefits that I believe come hand in hand with having faith in Christ. If you’re interested in learning more, feel free to read a number of my other blogs that might help you on your way towards having a real, unshakable relationship with God.

Praying for you today and always, friends.

Love in Christ,

Helen Elizabeth
